How Glass Perfume Bottles Are Crafted: Are You Passionate About Crystal-like Glass Bottles, or know that clear glass comes from stone but don't understand how rough stone transforms into delicate glassware? If this is you, let's show you how.
Typically, manufacturing processes for glass perfume bottles include batching, melting, forming, annealing inspection and decoration.
Follow these steps:
Following a meticulously crafted material formula, a variety of selected raw materials are precisely measured and thoroughly combined in a mixer. The key ingredients for crafting glass perfume bottles consist of silica sand (SiO2), sodium oxide (Na2O) derived from soda ash, calcium oxide (CaO) found in limestone or dolomite, magnesium oxide (MgO) from dolomite, feldspar (Al2O3), and additional processing materials.
Melting is an intricate process involving both physical and chemical reactions. In the production of perfume bottles, all raw materials are subjected to high temperatures within a furnace to form a uniform glass devoid of bubbles through complete melting.
There are primarily two types of furnaces used in the glass perfume bottle manufacturing process. The first is the crucible furnace, where a small kiln can accommodate a single crucible, while a larger one can hold over 20 crucibles. It's important to note that only optical and tinted glasses are typically produced in these kilns.
The second type is the boiler furnace. There are two methods for melting the raw materials for glass perfume bottles in such a furnace: one method uses an open flame with temperatures ranging from 1300℃ to 1600℃ to melt the surface of the molten glass pool, and the other is flame heating combined with an electric current, known as an electric furnace.
The glass will change shape during the molding process due to the high temperatures which cause thermal stress. The thermal stress in the glass reduces its strength and thermal stability.
When you directly cool the glass, it will tend to crack during the cooling or when you transport, store and use the product. To avoid a cold-burst, glass must be annealed. The glass is annealed to reduce thermal stress.
