How to Pack Glass Bottles for Shipping?

Glass bottles are ideal for holding liquids because of their remarkable stability. Nonetheless, they are prone to breakage, so it’s essential to handle them with extra caution during packaging and shipping to guarantee they reach their destination intact. To secure your bottles, wrap each one separately in bubble wrap, utilize two strong cardboard boxes, and fill any gaps with packing materials. By taking these precautions and labeling the box as fragile, you can confidently send your bottle! Below are the specific steps for packaging glass bottles effectively.

Prepare the box

1. Choose a box that is sufficiently spacious to accommodate the packaged bottle along with additional cushioning materials. Ensure that the box is robust and free from any holes or damage. While it’s often possible to obtain a used box from a store at no cost, opting for a new one is advisable instead of settling for an old or weak box.

2. Locate another box that is 6 inches larger in every dimension than the first one. To enhance the safety of your packaging, it’s recommended to use a two-layered approach for holding your bottles. Aim for a design where, when the smaller box is placed inside, there’s approximately 3 inches of padding surrounding it on all sides.

3. Secure the bottoms of both boxes using packing tape that measures at least 2 inches in width. Start by folding together two opposite flaps and then lay down the remaining two flaps on top before sealing them with tape. Apply a long strip of tape across where the two outer flaps meet and add tape to the sides perpendicular to this strip, forming an H shape for reinforcement. For extra protection, place an additional piece of tape on the bottom to secure any interior flap.

4. Place packing material at the bottom of the larger box as cushioning.

Packaging glass bottle

1. Wrap each bottle in bubble wrap. Use small bubble wrap to wrap each bottle four times. You can wrap each bottle with large bubble wrap 2 times. Around each bottle, you will need approximately 3 inches of bubble wrapping. You can use Scotch tape or rubber bands to keep it in place.

Divided packaging containers can be found at shipping supply shops and are available in boxes or insert boxes.

2. Seal each bottle if it contains liquid in a plastic bag. If any of the bottles break during transit, they will not leak. If you're worried about leaks, you can seal the cap using electrical tape.

It is important to avoid shipping carbonated beverages like beer or kombucha that are likely to explode.

3. Place the smaller box in the larger box. Fill the sides of smaller box with additional packing material. Place it roughly in the middle and on top of padding. The box should be packed so tightly that it doesn't move when the larger one is shaken.

4. Place the bottle into the box. Keep the bottles upright if they contain liquid. You can put them anywhere you like if they don't contain liquid. Leave at least three inches between the side of the container and the bottle.

5. Fill in any blank spaces with packing material. Wrap the bottles on all sides in packing material after placing them into the box. To prevent the bottles from moving, you should also place some packing material in between them.

Pack the box tightly but not too tightly. Pack the box until the bottle does not move when shaken.

Box and label

1. Put the shipping address in the box. If the label on the package is damaged, this will prevent the bottle from being lost. Put the return and recipient address on a sheet of paper in the box.

2. Tape the boxes together. Use at least 2-inch wide packing tape to tape the inner box on both sides and in the middle in a H-shape. Tape the box and add more packing materials on top.

3. Remove or scratch any labels from the outer box. Check the outside of the package to ensure it arrives on time. If they are there, you can either remove them with a black marker or completely cover them.

4. The delivery address should be clearly written on the outer box. Check your address twice to ensure it is correct.

Inscribe your return address in the box.

5. On both sides of the box, write "Fragile" with capital letters. You may want to purchase "Fragile Stamps" if you are shipping bottles often. It's possible to have the post office employee stamp your bottle, but writing it yourself is best.

You can also write "this way up" on both sides, with an arrow pointing upwards. This is especially useful when shipping liquid bottles.
